Ramadan Kareem – CC Qatar and Al Jazeera to Host Iftar

Creative Commons Qatar and Al Jazeera will host the first Creative Commons Iftar on August 10, 2011, at Mamig in Katara starting at 5.30pm. The Iftar will be an opportunity for Qatar’s creative community to come together during the holy month of Ramadan, a month where the true meaning of sharing and collaboration is embodied. Al Jazeera has graciously agreed to sponsor the CC Iftar, further demonstrating their commitment to Creative Commons in Qatar and globally.

CC Qatar Holds Remixing Workshops for Visual Artists

Creativity was on full display at the first workshops hosted by CC Qatar, held June 1 and 2 at Virginia Commonwealth University-Qatar. Designed specifically for visual artists, the workshops introduced the principles of Creative Commons to the participants, then moved into a remixing session, where small groups were tasked with creating a collective collage that captured their Qatar experience.

What an incredible evening our launch was! Thank you to everyone who came to the official launch of Creative Commons Qatar. The atmosphere was electric and it was energizing to be surrounded by so many of Qatar’s creative people. The launch of Creative Commons Qatar could not have happened without the support of ictQATAR. They took the lead in organizing the launch – which was nothing short of spectacular.

Creative Commons Qatar and Qatar Happening are excited to announce a photo competition for the cover of QH’s September edition. To enter, professional and amateur photographers can submit their photos to Creative Commons Qatar using the Entry Form. The deadline for submissions is July 25, 2011.

Desiqn and Qreativity (yes the q’s are intentional) was the theme for the May Doha Tweetup and CC Qatar was on hand to give a short presentation about how Creative Commons works and to encourage people to be a part of the growing CC community in Qatar. CC Qatar team member Brian Wesolowski showed the great video “Wanna Work Together?” and talked about CC Qatar’s plans for the coming year, including a series of workshops and a CC iftar in Ramadan.
